Have you ever showed-up to a loan signing and the borrower was suppose to provide you with a copy of their photo ID but didn’t? How do you solve the problem? For me, I take a photo of the borrowers ID with the camera on my iPhone and print a copy of it out before sending the package back to escrow.

With the recent purchase of an iPhone, I have been able to stay connected to my customers and the rest of the mobile world more easily. Along with booking notary appointments from the traditional phone call, I have also been receiving many of my notary jobs via email and text message. Notary Journal

It’s been a while since I’ve written an entry for my blog. I’ve been busy this last couple of months and my notary journals have been filling up fast. When I first received my notary commission, I was given free notary journals from the class I took to become a notary as well as the place I purchase my surety bond. These journals were very tedious for loan signings because they required multiple journal entries.

So, I searched the internet for a new journal and found the best one at notaryrotary.com. They are calling it the Modern Journal. This journal allows me to select all the documents used in a loan signing and it’s all placed in one single journal entry, so the borrower only needs to sign one time! Certified Automobile Signing Agent

Last week I was approached with a new opportunity to become a certified signing agent for the automotive industry. Maverick Signings contacted me through Twitter and offered me the possibility to become a certified member of their network of notaries. I quickly took their certification course, passed the exam, and now I am officially ready to notarize automotive documents. I am excited about exploring this new avenue of the notary business. World Cup soccer has been very exciting to watch for this 2010 tournament. It has been great to see some of the more celebrated team’s falls, as the underdogs have risen to the challenge. Landon Donovan is my favorite player for the US team and LA Galaxy. He plays hard, has great sportsmanship, and never gives up. He makes great plays happen and it’s truly exciting to watch. I Notarize OC Reaches the One Year Mark

One year ago today I officially became Marni Sievers Notary Public! Can you believe it? This past year has truly gone by so fast. My business of being a traveling notary public and loan signing agent grows each month. I continue to build clients and market myself all across Orange County. Because of my hard work and dedication I can proudly say that I've even earned repeat business! So with year one behind me, I look forward to what this second year will bring.

What is a Notary Public

A notary public is a public servant approved by the Secretary of State to witness the signing of documents and administer oaths and affirmations. The purpose of a notary public is to be an impartial witness and to discourage fraud from taking place. To identify a signer, the signer must present the notary public with proper ID. Acceptable ID must include a photograph, physical description of the person, signature, and an identifying number. Here are some examples of acceptable forms of ID for California residents:

• ID card
• CA drivers license
• US passport
• Out of state drivers license
• Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized driver license
• Foreign passport (must be stamped by the US Immigration Services)
• Military ID
• Inmate ID card (issued by the California Department of Corrections)

Why did I become a Notary Public?

Recently my family, friends, and clients have been asking me why did you become a Notary Public. So I decided to write a feature as to why I made this career change. For those of you who do not know, I began working in the mortgage industry back in 2002. I had a great and rewarding outsides sales career as an Account Executive. I loved this position. I was able to work from home, schedule my own hours, and depending on how hard I worked I would be rewarded. Since 2007, the section of the mortgage industry I worked in pretty much disappeared. I was puzzled and I didn’t know what to do. I took the first job that was offered to me, which was working for a media company. This was by no means an ideal career choice for me. I considered it just a job. But from this job, I was able to see people working for themselves in all different industries. I realized that there was an opportunity out there for me to do something besides sit in a cubicle all day.

I began to brainstorm ideas of a new career path. I wanted to find something that was not too complicated, left very little paperwork around the house, and was similar to my previous outsides sales career that I loved so much. Then I came across the idea of being a traveling Notary Public. I remembered back when I worked in the mortgage industry we were always looking for a last minute notary to sign loan docs. Notary Public is not a glamorous name for a career, but after researching the benefits it satisfied my top two qualifications of what I was looking for; to work from home, and set my own hours. So in early 2009, I took the course, passed the exam, and in June of last year I was officially Marni Sievers Notary Public.

Being a Notary Public is a rewarding career. I help make life a little easier for people by bringing my services to a location that is convenient for them. I work with the citizens of Orange County and local businesses. I love the challenge of being self-employed and I look forward to the many adventures of being a traveling Notary Public.

Completed My First Loan Signing

Last Thursday I successfully completed my first loan signing as a notary public. To make life a little easier for the borrowers, I picked-up the loan docs from Monrovia Escrow so the borrowers could sign in the comfort of their own home. I would like to congratulate great friends and first time home buyers Will and Sarah. I’m so excited for you both! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to notarize your loan docs. This is the first of many loan signings for me as a traveling notary public. Here is the happy couple just after completing the signing.
